Spring Style: Updating Your Wardrobe Without Breaking the Budget

By Joanna Willmott, Personal Stylist @ There Will Be Style

As we welcome the new change in season our minds turn to Spring clothing. Shopping can be overwhelming as new trends and styles are aplenty! So let me make this a whole lot simpler for you by breaking down the trends for 2017, and how to update your look without breaking the budget.

So, let’s look at the Spring trends and then I’ll make suggestions for where you can purchase new seasonal clothing.

Colour trends this Spring…

We’re talking pink, red, and yellow. Now, you don’t have to go overboard. Find one piece in a separate (top or bottom) that you love, and know you will enjoy wearing for the year to come. A great option is a top. A gorgeous shirt or blouse can be worn with; jeans, pants, skirts, shorts. Updating your wardrobe is less tricky than you think. The key is to make sure your new item goes with 3 other items in your wardrobe. That will give you 3 new outfits, at the very least!

A dress worn with different shoes can provide many outfit options too; the key is to change your accessories using the dress as a canvas. A dress worn with sandals and a natural coloured bag for the weekend, or with a fabulous pare of strappy heels and glamourous bag for evening.

Pattern trends this season…

Are polka dots, stripes, and floral. A great option is a pretty monochrome dress (black and white) in one of the mentioned patterns. Make sure the dress can compliment a; sandal, slide, ankle boot, platform espadrille, pump/stiletto. This will take you from work, to drinks, weekend BBQ, to a holiday!

Dress Witchery $149.95

The trend for pants is Culottes, Capri, or palazzo pants. Look for details such as rouching too. Again you can choose whichever colour or pattern you love. Wear with; a tank, camisole, blouse, shirt.

Pants Witchery $99.99

You only need to purchase 3 new pieces for your Spring wardrobe and already you have endless options. You won’t overcrowd your wardrobe, you’ll have on-trend outfits, and you will have kept within the family budget!

Ok, Jo, so where do I find these great on-trend pieces that will fit into my budget?

All the high street stores have fabulous options. Make sure to set some time aside to look online and compare prices before shopping. This is absolutely paramount! We often break the budget because we haven’t planned before. Impulse buying leads to pieces in your wardrobe that don’t go with items you already own. The newly purchased clothing ends up hanging in your cupboard, unworn – as you know, this is a huge waste of money.

Decide before shopping which 3 pieces will work well with your existing clothing. Have a look at the dominant colours in your wardrobe and be certain that your new clothing purchases are going to work seamlessly with your current clothing. Take photos of your clothing, so when shopping you have an easy reference.

If you have a little more in the budget then invest in the basics; white tank top, T-Shirt, neutral/white body suit. Having a few basics pieces can add depth to your outfit. Wearing an open shirt as a jacket over a tank top or bodysuit is a simple way to create an easy Spring-weather outfit. Roll up your sleeves, and add a statement necklace or earings.

Chainstores such as Witchery, Country Road, Seed Heritage, and Sportsgirl will have options that are on-trend and will keep within your budget. Expect to pay around $150 for dresses, $120 for pants, and around $90 for tops.

Zara, H&M, & Top Shop you can find even more budget friendly fashion finds, for under $100 dollars. Seasonal accessories too can be found for as little as under $30 dollars.

Lastly, have fun shopping… it’s Spring after all!

Stay stylish
