Quality Time: 4 Rainbow Recipes for Guaranteed Fun

I’m crazy busy all week and so the weekends are dedicated to quality time with my son. I’m always trying to think up new ways of us doing fun things together. Of course I need a little downtime and that is what TV is for, but from jumping in muddy puddles (thanks Peppa Pig) to creating fun foods there’s lots to be done when it comes to real quality time.

I’ve focused on food for this one… and colour! Here are four colourful food ideas from blogs I love where they’ve created something wonderful from the somewhat mundane. Add in the help of tiny fingers and fun should definitely ensue. Fun and mess, but I’ve learned as a mother that one does not tend to come without the other.

Unicorn toast.

Mixing natural ingredients or colouring with cream cheese or similar and taking some time to have some fun with it… who’d have thunk? This makes me happy just looking at it. I can’t wait to try this with Thor. Maybe Superhero toast for us! Discovered over at Vibrant & Pure

Banana Popsicles.

These are fun and easy to make. For when the weather is hot and you don’t want to give in and go with sugar-laden ice cream, nothing beats chocolate dipped bananas for a balance of healthy and sweet. This image and a great how-to over at Sugar Hero.

Unicorn cupcakes (You might notice a theme here)

We can’t get these baking mixes here in Australia, but we can substitute the mix for good old fashion ingredients. Found over at Foodstirs. There’s a how-to there as well!

Rainbow pancakes.

I love this because it’s easy and colour always equals fun. This might be one to make for them, rather than with them, but the excitement on their face makes for quality time consuming together. No source for this one, but it’s all about mixing the pancake batter (however you like your pancakes) with some natural food colouring… it’s probably the easiest of the four!
