After a month of overindulging on food, drink and the toxins that come with the festive period, January is a time to un-bloatm offload the damage and start some healthy eating. It’s tempting to begin radical diets or detoxes, when really what your body needs is some of the good stuff.
Being more mindful about what you eat will help you ditch the lethargic I can’t get out of bed vibe for the 2017, let’s do this vibe. Fruit juices are all too tempting when you’re a busy mum, trying to juggle a thousand things, but are high in sugar and when we drink too much can be as detrimental for us as all those nasties we are constantly told to avoid. Enter watermelon.
Its red, shimmering, juiciness is actually pretty darn good for you. We give it a big tick for hydrating and snacking this summer.
Some facts to get you blending the good stuff:
Watermelon is around 92% water
Due to its high water content, it is a natural diuretic, which helps ease bloating
I cup of watermelon juice has just 45 calories
It comes packed with fibre and other nutrients making it a great snack option
Each bite has significant levels of vitamins A, B6 and C, lots of lycopene, antioxidants and amino acids. There’s even a modest amount of potassium. Lycopene has been linked with heart health, bone health and prostate cancer prevention. It’s also a powerful antioxidant thought to have anti-inflammatory properties
