Happy Mother’s Day: Here’s to Little Blessings

Happy Mother’s Day!

We’re all so different. Though this blog is about the life of women who are trying to juggle careers and a family, no two women are the same. That said, there’s one thing I know we all have in common: we all love our children more than life itself.

Disclaimer: This post is without its normal whimsy.

A constant sarcastic slant on the world of a modern working mum, can feel very real in the day to day of it all. And funny… we need funny when everything else is so intense, right? But it’s Mother’s Day, which for me is a day of grateful reflection so my (awesome) sense of humour has taken a back seat.

In our post about gratitude, Kristy Lee talks about the importance of taking the time to be thankful. So today I am thankful. I am thankful to my own mother, for her heart of gold and always telling me to pursue my dreams, but most of all, I am grateful that I have been given the blessing of becoming a mother myself.

I’ll never forget the first time I held my little boy…

I’d had a few complications and lost a lot of blood, which meant I passed out about a minute after he was placed in my arms… but that minute, oh my. Did you ever know you could love something so completely?

I feel so privileged to be a mum. Despite the tantrums, the snot (I really hate snot), the early wake ups and the fact I haven’t been allowed to pee in peace since he was able to walk, I look at him every day and smile to myself, thinking: how did I get so lucky?

So this post is to celebrate all the women raising children. It’s not an easy job, but it’s the best one there is. Today of all days remember: whatever kind of mum you are, you’re everything to someone.

And here are a few quotes to get that warm fuzzy feeling in motion…

“Without any words, my mum knows when something is up. Whether I want her to or not! She’s patient and waits for me to talk, I don’t always, but she is quietly confident that I will when I need to and she will always say something that restarts my headspace. This is regardless of how difficult or challenging her own life might be at the time. I aspire to have such a loving and wise headspace for my children when they need it.”  – Charlotte

“I love my mum and honestly feel like I got the ‘mum’ jackpot! She was amazing to me and my brothers growing up, always putting us first and now she’s a grandma she has stepped it up even further, literally dropping everything to help out when I need her. I don’t know how I would have coped with the first year of motherhood without her love and support!” – Jeni

“My mum is still the only one who can instantly make me feel better when I’m sick, with just the touch of her hand on my forehead.” – Jay

“My mum inspires me every day. She is the most selfless person I know. If I am half the mother she is then I will be very happy! I am so thankful I get to call her Mum, she is my best friend and I love her with all my heart” – Dani
